{Read all the way to the bottom of the post for the giveaway!}

The lazy-hazy days of summer mean things get a little more relaxed around here. Staying up a bit later, less structure when it comes to meals and snacks, and a few more “treats” (particularly of the frozen variety.)

I recently asked the mamas in my Raising Healthy Eaters Facebook Community about their biggest summer feeding challenge and here’s what Tania had to say:

 “My challenge is…how much do we “give in” because it’s summer? We eat pretty healthy, but I find there’s a lot more junk around in summer. Even hubby wants an after dinner ice cream cone! So it’s a tough balance of saying “sure, you’re a kid and it’s summer”, and “I think that’s enough!”

I feel your struggle Tania! There are a lot more treats on-the-offer in the summer. And you know what I’m seeing way too much of these days? Freezies!

Is it just me, or are freezies EVERYWHERE?! Tyson is getting freezies at camp, at tennis lessons, at swimming lessons, at soccer. And of course when Maggie is around, she gets one by default and oh my – she thinks they are the best thing ever.

I definitely want my kiddos to be able to enjoy treats throughout the summer, but then I also want to offer them at home sometimes (like the after-dinner ice-cream cone) to help them maintain a relaxed attitude about treats.

What’s a mama to do?

When my kids started asking for freezies at home (okay, mostly Maggie!), I wanted to provide them with a frozen treat that was a little more nutrient dense – to balance out all those other freezies. But of course, it still had to be tasty.

And that’s where Zipzicles come in handy. (Have you seen these yet? The folks at Zipzicle sent me some to sample and they are amaze!)

Zipzicles are basically just plastic freezie packages you can fill yourself. They’re really easy to use – just fill ’em up (I used a little funnel, similar to this), freeze upright in a glass, and enjoy. (In Canada, you can pick Zipzicles up on Amazon and Bed, Bath and Beyond)

Whether you keep things simple and just pour in some pure fruit juice, or get a little more fancy and blend together the ingredients (like in my recipes below), these freezies are treats you can feel good about offering your kids on on a hot summer day.

Honestly, I have so many ideas on what to fill them with, but for today I’ve narrowed it down to two yummy recipes* for you to try:

  • The Raspberry-Peach freezie takes full advantage of the season’s fresh and delicious peaches (which my kids can’t get enough of!)
  • The Pineapple-Blueberry-Lime freezie is sweet and a little tangy, and my kids love the dark purple colour

*Don’t have any Zipzicles? No problem – you can make any of these recipes into popsicles by pouring them into your favourite popsicle mold instead.

I made a few batches of these freezies during our annual cottage week with a group of friends. There is no better place to serve juicy, drippy freezies to 9 kids, than outside by the lake where they can just jump in the water to wash off!

And lucky for you, the folks at Zipzicle want to help one lucky reader kick-start your healthy freezie habit. To enter the giveaway for 2 x 36-packs of Zipzicle® Zip-top Ice-pop molds + some really cool Neoprene freezie holders (for those sensitive little hands) all you have to do is:

Contest closes Thursday, August 28th, 2017 at 6pm EST and is open to Canadian and U.S. residents.
