Today I have a few interesting reads for your enjoyment:
In case you missed the post on my Facebook feed (if you don’t already, you can follow me on FB here), this is an interesting article about a new study linking a diet of Real Food to decreased allergies in children.
Here is some disturbing information about food marketing and kids. Honestly, I get very angry when I hear about how diabolical food marketers are and how they deliberately mislead our children into thinking that unhealthy eating is “fun, positive and socially rewarding”. This is another factor to be aware of when deciding how much “screen time” we allow our kids.
Want your kids to eat more veggies? Serve them with a dip according to this article. This is no surprise, as I think most kids will eat hummus or other dips with spoon! Instead of the “ranch” dip used in the study, why not try this hummus, this roasted butternut squash dip, this balsamic tahini dressing/dip or kale pesto.
I love this fun (and healthy!) summertime dessert idea for kids.
Need a laugh? I thought this was pretty funny (and a tongue-in-cheek way to say to all parents “judging each other is annoying”)
I had the pleasure of attending an event put on by BC Blueberries last month. The food was delicious and each dish contained – you guessed it – blueberries! I have never cooked a savoury dish with blueberries but I am looking forward to trying some of the great recipes on their site – including the Pork Tacos with Blueberry Pineapple Salsa.
I’m heading off the cottage in a couple of days for another week, so lots of packing and food prep happening over here. As soon as I get back, I’ll fill you in on what I’m making. My next post will be on eating healthy while cottaging – I’ve become an expert this summer!
